Instagram – the land of magical places that leave us scrolling for days with #wanderlust. Being nearly mid-year already if you’re like us, you’ve already started browsing different feeds planning your mid-year beach escape.

Your search can end now. Online booking platform TravelSupermarket did a hashtag analysis to find the world’s most Instagrammed beaches. And can you believe number 1 is right on our doorstep!?

With almost 130, 000 tags Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays is the most instafriendly beach. Read below to see what else made the list.

1. Whitehaven Beach, Australia

The most Instagrammed beach in the world is right here in Australia. If you haven’t managed to find an excuse to visit the dazzling white sands of Whitehaven Beach, here it is. The seven-kilometre stretch of sand is known to be 98 per cent pure silica, giving the beach a shimmer. You’ll also only be able to reach the uninhabited Whitsunday Island by air or sea. Word of warning - The sand is also much lighter and can be an absolute pain to get out of camera and smartphone cases. 

 

2. Lanikai Beach, Hawaii

Size doesn’t matter, right? At only roughly 800 metres long, Lanikai, which translates to “heavenly ocean” is a testament to that saying. Situated on the island of Ohahu, the backdrop of the mountain peaks, golden sand, swaying palm trees and crystal blue water make for a Kodak moment at every turn. 

 

3.Horseshoe Bay, Bermuda

Named for its curving shape, Horseshoe Bay boasts Bermuda's trademark translucent, strikingly blue waters and "pretty in pink" sands. It’s flawless appearance and popularity make this a bucket list beach to visit. 

 

4. Cayo Coco Beach, Cuba

Who doesn’t love a pink flamingo?! And with the planet’s largest colony, this sprawling beach on an island north of mainland Cuba is just another reason why we should all be visiting Cuba this year.

 

5. Bavaro Beach, Dominican Republic

Bavaro is the quintessential Caribbean beach: the sand is smooth, palms trees aplenty, while the shore is dotted with little shacks offering everything from cocktails to jewellery. Its pristine water photographs superbly well and the coral reef jut offshore is ideal for snorkelling.

There are very few places in the world where you can swim with penguins in their natural habitat. This is why Boulder Beach and its furry little friends make the list. As if we need another reason to visit South Africa – there’s just so much on offer so this icing on the cake.

When one imagines a beautiful beach, the England definitely doesn't spring to mind. But after fact-checking this on Instagram (as we still couldn’t believe it) we were blown away by the old English charm and vibrant colours of Bournemouth Beach. It’s like a scene out of an old seaside romance movie and now we can understand why it attracts over six million visitors per year.

 

8. Pink Sands Beach, Bahamas

Pair a pastel sunset with the some of the most vividly colour sand you will find on Earth and the result is a sure-fire Instagram hit. The beach gets its unique hue from microscopic insect which have beautiful pink and red shells. Think of them as a built-in sunset filter.

 

9. Ao Nang Beach, Thailand

Arguably Krabi’s most photographed beach, this would probably be even higher on Instagram’s list if it could offer more places to escape the fierce midday sun. The limestone cliffs, steams jungle, nearby shops and Thai longboats combine for one incredible backdrop that’s sure to get a lot of double taps.
